Interesting factoid on the GetFitMississippi.com website, that Mississippi is #1 in Obesity in the U.S. (read more below)

The site is geared towards creating awareness of the health risks of those who are overweight and obese. It also has sections to motivate and inspire members to educate themselves on various fitness ideas. Plus they have healthy heart recipes, member photos, blogs, and a cool forum to ask questions.

The goal:

Mississippi has taken over the top spot in obesity in the U.S. Our goal is for the state to relinquish that title. If just one percent of us who are obese can lose weight, West Virginia will take over the top spot. Join Mississippi in getting fit.

I was doing some online surfing and cames across a local Mississippi resident who also happens to be a well known and established porcelain artist, her name is Penny Sanford.

Penny is a porcelain sculptress who resides in Kilmichael, MS and her work is fabulous. She has been featured in The Winona Times several times over the years, and in 2001 even had a piece commissioned by Governor Barbour.

Her work is beautiful and her pieces lovely, i love that she specializes in what i call, “location based art”. She is highly influenced by the beauty of her hometown, and has created several porcelain sculptures based out of historic Mississippi places and or landmarks. This Friday, May 9th, at the Montgomery County Coliseum, the annual “Relay For Life” kicks off. Relay For Life, is a benefit event aimed at raising funds for cancer research. 3 years ago the local benefit here in Winona, MS raised over $54,000.

Woody’s Old Town Grill encourages everyone in Winona to support this worthy cause, and contribute or participate in any way you can. The goal this year is a very modest $30,000. All funds raised through “Relay For Life” goes to The American Cancer Society. Show your support this Friday, May 9th at 6pm.
